About the Job:
The Engineering Manager, Commercial Systems role at Canonical is designed for a technologist passionate about Linux and Ubuntu. This position offers an opportunity to shape the future of open-source development by leading an engineering team responsible for services used by millions worldwide. The team will develop and operate various commercial systems, including:
- A contracts service that supports extended security maintenance for devices.
- Operational scalability of Juju, Canonical's orchestration solution.
- Integration of internal business operations with data lakes and SaaS solutions.
- Collaborating with public cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, and GCP for a seamless customer experience.
- Ensuring business operations teams utilize Salesforce effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of software engineers in developing and operating software solutions.
- Provide engineering guidance to the teams and seek improvements in processes and designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and code in Go or Python.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience as a software developer in a high-level language (preferably Go or Python).
- Proven experience as a hands-on engineering manager or team lead.
- Background in building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work remotely with diverse team members and stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel internationally for approximately 2-4 times per year, lasting one week at a time.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with Ubuntu Linux in public clouds.
- Knowledge of authentication & authorization, financial systems, or Salesforce integration.
