About the Job:
The Engineering Manager, Commercial Systems role at Canonical is designed for a technologist passionate about Linux and Ubuntu. This position offers an opportunity to shape the future of open-source development by leading an engineering team responsible for services used by millions worldwide. The team will develop and operate various commercial systems, including:

  • A contracts service that supports extended security maintenance for devices.
  • Operational scalability of Juju, Canonical's orchestration solution.
  • Integration of internal business operations with data lakes and SaaS solutions.
  • Collaborating with public cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, and GCP for a seamless customer experience.
  • Ensuring business operations teams utilize Salesforce effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of software engineers in developing and operating software solutions.
  • Provide engineering guidance to the teams and seek improvements in processes and designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and code in Go or Python.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience as a software developer in a high-level language (preferably Go or Python).
  • Proven experience as a hands-on engineering manager or team lead.
  • Background in building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work remotely with diverse team members and stakeholders.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel internationally for approximately 2-4 times per year, lasting one week at a time.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with Ubuntu Linux in public clouds.
  • Knowledge of authentication & authorization, financial systems, or Salesforce integration.
