Position

Canonical is building a comprehensive suite of multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions for the enterprise. Our data platform team encompasses a wide range of technologies, including big data, NoSQL, cache-layer capabilities, and analytics, as well as structured SQL engines like Postgres and MySQL. We aim to deliver fault-tolerant, mission-critical distributed systems, and establish the world's best data platform.

We are seeking technical Engineering Managers to lead teams focused on Big Data and MySQL databases. In this role, you will lead the development of scalable data solutions for Kubernetes and cloud environments.

Location: Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote with global travel twice yearly for internal events of one or two weeks duration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team in building scalable data solutions for Kubernetes and cloud machines.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and provide feedback to your team, leading by example.
  • Demonstrate strong engineering skills by contributing code as needed.
  • Manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality products that users love, fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with other leaders in the organization as an active part of the leadership team.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A software engineering background, preferably with Python and Golang experience.
  • Experience running production systems at scale, preferably with Big Data or MySQL.
  • Exceptional judgment in understanding team members' motivations, abilities, and prospects for success.
  • Proven ability to build high-quality, open-source software and drive good engineering practices.
  • Openness to new technologies and the ambition to innovate.
  • A passion for developing and growing talent within your team.

Additional Skills That You Might Bring:

  • Specialized knowledge in one or more technologies such as Spark, Superset, MySQL, or similar.
  • Prior experience in open-source projects and a willingness to collaborate with the community.
