Position

As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility will be to lead an effective team and develop the colleagues you manage. You will need to be technically strong while ensuring that the team is focused, productive, and unblocked. Your role involves developing and reviewing code, mentoring engineers, and facilitating team processes to achieve meaningful work and professional satisfaction.

You will collaborate with other Engineering Managers, product managers, and architects to produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious yet achievable goals. Familiarity with open-source machine learning tools such as Kubeflow, MLFlow, and Feast is essential, along with a commitment to healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality, and performance optimization.

Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote with global travel for 2 to 4 weeks per year, Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a distributed team of engineers and the MLOps/Analytics portfolio
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Mentor and grow your direct reports
  • Attend conferences to represent Canonical and its MLOps solutions
  • Organize and lead team processes to meet objectives

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of professional experience in software delivery
  • Professional Python development experience, preferably with open source
  • Understanding of the machine learning space, focusing on MLOps solutions
  • Exceptional academic record, preferably at university level
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events

Additional Skills:

  • Experience with machine learning libraries and tools
  • Expertise in building highly automated machine learning solutions for the cloud
  • Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, LXD, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with public clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Knowledge of Linux and open-source software
