Position

As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, you will be responsible for running an effective team while also possessing strong technical skills. Your main goal will be to develop the colleagues you manage and ensure the team is focused, productive, and unblocked. You will lead by example by reviewing code, mentoring engineers, and promoting a positive team culture. You are expected to help your team grow as engineers, do meaningful work, and find professional fulfillment. Collaborating closely with other Engineering Managers, product managers, and architects, you will produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious yet achievable goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a distributed team and its MLOps/Analytics portfolio
  • Organize and lead team processes to achieve objectives
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings and identify team health indicators
  • Review code produced by engineers and mentor direct reports
  • Represent Canonical at conferences
  • Commit to healthy engineering practices, documentation, and performance optimization

Requirements:

  • Professional experience in software delivery, especially in Python development
  • Proven understanding of the machine learning space and MLOps solutions
  • Excellent academic background, preferably from both high school and university
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events

Additional Skills (Preferred but Not Required):

  • Experience with machine learning libraries and tools
  • Proven track record in building automated machine learning solutions for the cloud
  • Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and public clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Experience in the Linux and open-source software space
  • Passion for software quality and testing
