Position

Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, is seeking an Engineering Manager for our Public Cloud team. As part of this role, you will lead a team responsible for building, testing, and publishing the base Ubuntu images used by millions, ensuring the optimal performance and security of cloud environments. You will collaborate closely with major cloud partners, such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, to optimize Ubuntu for their infrastructures.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing a team of engineers within your timezone.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and providing hands-on career development for your team members.
  • Contributing to the team's goals while maintaining sound engineering principles.
  • Managing expectations with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring a healthy and collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Building automated and reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines.
  • Engaging with the open source community and commercial partners.

As an Engineering Manager, you will also play a crucial role in influencing the culture, facilitating technical delivery, and working on strategy and execution with your team.

Who You Are:

  • You have a passion for mentoring and developing engineers, with a proven track record in doing so.
  • You possess significant knowledge of software development, specifically in Python or Golang.
  • You are focused on delivering timely, high-quality software and have experience in agile development methodologies.
  • You hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • You have practical experience with at least one of the following: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Work Conditions:

  • Work from home with global travel expected up to 15% for internal and external events.
