Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, particularly through our platform, Ubuntu, which is widely utilized in enterprise initiatives like public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are a pioneer in global distributed collaboration with a team of over 1200 colleagues across 75+ countries. Typically, we meet two to four times a year in person in various global locations.

We are currently seeking an Engineering Manager - Python and K8s, who is passionate about fostering a world-class DevOps culture within corporate information systems. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming our internal IS team into a product engineering extension. This role involves leading a team that will work with open-source workloads and productize them for real-time operations on Kubernetes.

As an Engineering Manager, you will guide a local team focused on ensuring the high availability of Ubuntu and our services globally. Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team focused on productizing business workloads.
  • Building and managing a regional team of engineers.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and providing constructive feedback to team members.
  • Contributing to the team’s technical goals and maintaining sound engineering practices.
  • Setting reasonable schedules and managing expectations with stakeholders.
  • Advancing agile software development practices and maintaining a culture of engineering excellence.

Who You Are:

  • Experienced in Docker and Kubernetes operations.
  • Background in software engineering, with proven expertise in Python.
  • Skilled in developing Python frameworks and understanding the significance of stable APIs.
  • Enthusiastic about new technologies and improving software and infrastructure operations.
  • Committed to developing and growing individuals within your team.
  • Knowledgeable about software development with experience in agile environments.

Work Conditions:
