Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, primarily focused on the Ubuntu platform. We cater to global enterprise and technology markets, working with top public cloud and silicon providers. In this role, you will ensure customer success by resolving complex issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.

We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support who will work within a dynamic engineering environment dealing with various layers of the technology stack including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage, and networking technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for a technologist with a passion for Linux and open source software, who aims to troubleshoot and resolve critical issues effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu and associated software.
  • Maintain close collaboration with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities, developing bug fixes and backport patches.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and provide technical guidance.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in technical methods and techniques, managing priorities and time effectively.
  • Engage in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Maintain clear and concise technical communication.

Requirements:

  • An exceptional academic background in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, C, or C++) on Linux.
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar technology and address difficult issues.
  • Ability to travel for internal events up to 4 times per year.

  • Interest in learning about Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and distributed systems.
