About the Job:
Ubuntu Server is the world's most popular Linux, spanning both cloud and bare metal environments. In this role, you will manage the team responsible for delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution globally. Ubuntu aims to provide the latest and best free software components in an easy-to-use and highly reliable form, building on the technical excellence of Debian while offering tailored solutions for the industry.

The successful candidate will be passionate about the future of Ubuntu, understand the dynamics of the open-source ecosystem, and be aware of the needs of large, innovative customers. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a leader dedicated to fostering strong teams, open-source software, and the Ubuntu ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team
  • Manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocate for and advance modern, agile software development practices
  • Cultivate a healthy and collaborative engineering culture in alignment with company values
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews
  • Engage with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and commercial partners
  • Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family
  • Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features

Who You Are:

  • Experience in developing and growing teams with a strong track record
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about software development
  • 3+ years of experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
  • Experience managing distributed teams is a plus
  • Strong focus on success and delivering timely, high-quality software
  • Familiarity with agile development environments
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
  • Experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, preferably Debian or Ubuntu
  • Practical experience with at least one of the following: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services

Language Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
