Position

Ubuntu Server is the world's most popular Linux distribution, utilized in cloud and bare metal environments. In this role, you will manage the team delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution globally. Ubuntu aims to provide the latest and most reliable free software components in an accessible format. The successful applicant will be passionate about the future of Ubuntu, understand the dynamics of the open-source ecosystem, and recognize the needs of large, innovative customers. Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define vision and strategy for Ubuntu
  • Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices
  • Engage with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and commercial partners
  • Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family
  • Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features

Who You Are:

  • Passionate about developing and growing engineering talent
  • Knowledgeable about software development with 3+ years of experience in leading and mentoring software developers (experience with distributed teams is a plus)
  • Focused on delivering high-quality software in a timely manner
  • Experienced in an agile development environment
  • Holder of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
  • Familiarity with modern GNU/Linux distributions, preferably Debian or Ubuntu
  • Practical experience with one or more cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services)
