About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, renowned for our platform, Ubuntu. This platform is widely employed in critical enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our clientele includes top public cloud and silicon providers, as well as industry leaders across various sectors.

In this role, you will manage a team dedicated to delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution globally. Ubuntu Server is the world's most popular Linux distribution for cloud and bare metal. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and leading a globally distributed team of engineers
  • Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
  • Collaborating with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team
  • Managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocating for and advancing modern agile software development practices
  • Promoting a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values
  • Engaging with the open source community and commercial partners
  • Overseeing the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family and planning features

Who You Are:

  • Experienced in developing and growing people, with a strong track record in leadership
  • Passionate about software development with 3+ years in managing and mentoring software developers (experience with distributed teams is a plus)
  • Committed to delivering timely and high-quality software
  • Familiar with agile development methodologies
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
  • Possess strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
  • Have experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution (preferably Debian or Ubuntu) and familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services
