Position

Canonical is seeking a Golang software engineer to help build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure. This role involves working with KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies to create an efficient data center scale cloud for enterprise deployments. As a software engineer, you will work on the low-level Go codebase that interfaces with our REST API and manage C libraries for containers and virtual machines. LXD components cover the entire software stack, and we're looking for developers who can navigate through the complexities of system-level design and data management/modeling. This position offers the opportunity to have a significant impact on cloud computing technologies in a fun and fast-paced team environment.

Location: Remote (available in EMEA and the Americas)
Work Conditions: Full-time, remote work with global travel 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events

What You Will Focus On:

  • Designing, implementing, and documenting system-level Go code
  • Modeling data, designing database schema, and implementing data storage in a dqlite (SQL) database
  • Maintaining code quality through static analysis, unit tests, and system tests
  • Collaborating proactively with a distributed team
  • Discussing ideas and contributing to effective solutions

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience programming in Go and C
  • Knowledge of networking and storage technologies
  • Experience with cloud computing, virtualization, containers, distributed systems, or the open source community
  • Curiosity, flexibility, articulation, and accountability
  • Valued soft skills and ability to work thoughtfully and self-motivated
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar field

Language Requirements:
While specific language requirements are not mentioned, proficiency in English is typically expected in a global remote work environment.

What We Offer You:

  • Competitive compensation that is revisited annually
  • Performance-driven annual bonus
  • Diverse benefits reflecting our values and ideals
  • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year
  • Recognition rewards
  • Annual holiday leave
  • Maternity and paternity leave
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Opportunities for global travel to meet colleagues
  • Travel upgrades for long-haul company events
