Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, renowned for its platform, Ubuntu, which is widely used in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are looking for an Information Systems Architect to define best practices in infrastructure as code at a global scale. In this role, you will be responsible for all IT operations at Canonical, including infrastructure design and cloud services. As the IS Architect, you will utilize modern operating principles, leading a team of System Reliability Engineers (SREs) and Data Center Engineers (DCEs) to enhance Canonical products and open-source technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement a holistic vision for a world-class internal cloud.
  • Maintain the technical design roadmap and guidelines for improved reliability and operational scalability.
  • Collaborate with cloud-ops software development teams and provide input for the development of standardized automation processes.
  • Lead technical choices to implement self-service solutions and scalable operations.
  • Collaborate with security teams and automate operations for large enterprises.
  • Analyze incidents to implement structural improvements and mitigate future risks.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a home-based position with travel to company events totaling around 4 weeks per year.

Language Requirements:

  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively in English over various platforms.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record in a technical subject or a compelling alternative path.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing and Linux networking.
  • Experience with production outages and incident responses.
  • Passion for writing and maintaining open-source software solutions.
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering practices is a plus.
