Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems used globally across enterprise and technology sectors. The company operates the widely used Ubuntu platform, which supports initiatives in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Canonical is committed to remote work, with a distributed team of 1200 employees in over 80 countries, meeting in person two to four times a year to align on strategy.

We are seeking an Information Systems Architect to lead our infrastructure as code initiatives on a global scale, shaping the IT landscape for tens of millions of Ubuntu devices. The Information Systems (IS) team manages all IT operations at Canonical, handling the infrastructure for building, packaging, and distributing Ubuntu worldwide.

In this role, you will:

  • Define and implement a world-class internal cloud vision.
  • Maintain and update technical design roadmaps with a focus on reliability and scalability.
  • Collaborate with product security and operations to set best practices.
  • Automate operations for seamless integration across large enterprises.
  • Analyze incidents to foster continuous improvement in operations.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic background, ideally in a technical field.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and Linux networking.
  • Experience in incident response and the management of significant production outages.
  • Strong communication skills in English across various platforms.
  • Passion for open-source technologies, particularly Ubuntu or Debian.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Background in modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience with the automated administration of enterprise Linux environments.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficient in English, with clear communication skills.

Work Conditions: This is a remote, full-time position with twice-annual travel to company events totaling around 4 weeks per year.
