About the Job: This role is for candidates focusing on back-end REST API microservices engineering in Go and Python, covering all levels of seniority. As a Microservices Engineer, you will provide critical services that handle millions of Ubuntu clients and collaborate with thousands of community members. With the increased adoption of Ubuntu in enterprise computing, the focus on quality and performance has become essential. Your contributions will help improve practices around scalability, resilience, and DevOps.

  • API design, documentation, and governance
  • Database performance design
  • Multi-region service delivery
  • Proactive security techniques
  • Insights for distributed systems

What Your Day Will Look Like:

  • Write high-quality, well-designed, and robust software that works at scale
  • Design APIs and software architecture for collegial review
  • Write tests that validate software behavior
  • Build and maintain reliable, fault-tolerant applications and services
  • Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team
  • Display technical leadership internally and with external communities
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality solutions
  • Contribute to technical documentation

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM (or equivalent experience)
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Go
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery
  • Knowledge of systems programming or scalable web services
  • Professional written and spoken English

Additional Skills:

  • Experience with container technologies (e.g., LXD, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Understanding of build systems and toolchains
  • Experience with distributed systems and cloud computing
  • Performance engineering and security experience
