About the Job: This position focuses on security-oriented engineering across all teams at Canonical, applicable to all levels of seniority. Candidates should be exceptional security-focused software engineers, tasked with challenging product teams to enhance security practices. Responsibilities include defining and implementing new security features, analyzing and fixing vulnerabilities in Canonical and open source software, contributing to the Ubuntu community, and integrating new tools into the security infrastructure. The role encompasses various aspects of product security, feature development, vulnerability responses, and community participation. Security roles closely collaborate with other engineering and development teams, Canonical customers, and partners within the open-source community.
Responsibilities: - Define, implement, and document new security features. - Lead security-focused initiatives within product engineering teams. - Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in software. - Contribute to community-driven projects. - Auditing and analyzing source code for security vulnerabilities. - Integrate new security tools and processes into the workflow. - Develop hardening automation and achieve various security certifications.
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related STEM fields, or equivalent experience. - Excellent understanding of common security vulnerabilities and modern engineering techniques. - Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP. - Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred). - Fluent in professional written and spoken English. - Ability to travel twice a year for company events.
Optional Skills: - Experience in Linux Kernel Security, FIPS and CC certification knowledge. - Familiarity with OVAL (Open Vulnerability Assessment Language) and low-level Linux cryptography APIs. - Certification in security-related areas.
