Position

This role is part of a general track for security-focused engineering across all teams at Canonical, suitable for exceptional security-focused software engineers. Security-oriented software engineers are integrated into product engineering teams to enhance security practices. Responsibilities include:

  • Defining, implementing, and documenting new security features.
  • Leading security-oriented strategies within product engineering teams.
  • Analyzing, fixing, and testing vulnerabilities in Canonical and open source software.
  • Contributing to Ubuntu and upstream projects to benefit the community.
  • Auditing source code for vulnerabilities.
  • Integrating security tools within infrastructure and pipelines.
  • Achieving and retaining various security certifications.
  • Enhancing Linux cryptographic components for compliance with specific certifications such as FIPS and CC.
  • Collaborating with external partners to develop CIS benchmarks.
  • Monitoring the security industry for new developments and providing guidance to other engineering teams.

Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Remote work option with the requirement to travel twice a year for company events, lasting up to two weeks each.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic records with a degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
  • Proven experience and knowledge in main programming languages like C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP.
  • Familiarity with open source development tools and methodologies.
  • Professional written and spoken English.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of Linux Kernel Security, FIPS, and CC certifications.
  • Experience with OVAL (Open Vulnerability Assessment Language).
  • Familiarity with low-level Linux cryptography APIs.
