Position

As a Senior Engineer at Canonical, you will engage in a general track for Senior Engineers or above across various teams. The initial interview will help determine the most suitable teams for your skills. Canonical is committed to delivering open source solutions globally, including its flagship product, Ubuntu, which operates across cloud, desktop, and IoT environments.

In this role, you will contribute significantly to Canonical's offerings through high-quality code, technical leadership, and mentoring. A Senior Engineer not only excels as a software architect and developer but also demonstrates the ability to lead a team towards successful product delivery. Your responsibilities will include driving the architecture and design of impactful open source projects, coding in various programming languages such as Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust, and collaborating with a globally distributed team.

You will have the opportunity to engage with the open-source community, helping build a thriving ecosystem and ensuring seamless software operations at scale. Additionally, you may expect to travel for company events twice a year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead design and architecture of impactful open source projects.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
  • Mentor colleagues and display technical leadership.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code.
  • Contribute to technical documentation.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
  • Deep experience with at least one of the following: Go, Rust, Python, or C.
  • Subject matter expertise in your engineering domain.
  • Professional written and spoken English skills.
  • Experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu).
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each).

Additional Skills:

  • Experience with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and software security.
  • Familiarity with public clouds or OpenStack.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
