About the Job: Drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling as part of the Launchpad team. This role is an opportunity for a motivated engineer passionate about open-source software, Linux, and web services to join a distributed team. Launchpad is a platform for managing open-source development projects, offering code hosting, review, bug tracking, package building, translations, and more, essential for major projects like Ubuntu.
You will balance maintaining business-critical services with expanding the feature set, working on improving package building capabilities, enhancing user development flows, and modernizing the web UI. Key Responsibilities: - Collaborate on design, architecture, and feature selection with distributed teams. - Write high-quality, API-first Python code with unit tests. - Debug issues and produce high-quality fixes. - Review code from other engineers. - Work remotely with global travel 2 to 4 times a year for events.
Who You Are: - You love technology, working with brilliant people, and solving interesting problems. - You are a strategic thinker who is curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable. - You hold a Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree. - You can deliver robust code to production, preferably in Python. - You are experienced in maintaining large, mature web applications and have expertise with databases, ORMs (with PostgreSQL as a plus), and data management. - You have an interest in or experience with integration, infrastructure, and operations. - You understand the importance of security in software delivery. - Familiarity with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform is beneficial. - You possess a solid understanding of software packaging systems, including Debian/Ubuntu packages.
