Position

Join the Launchpad team at Canonical to drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling. This role is ideal for a motivated engineer who is passionate about open-source software, Linux, and web services. Launchpad is a platform that facilitates the management of open-source development projects, offering services such as code hosting, bug tracking, and package building, which are essential for major projects like Ubuntu.

The successful candidate will work on balancing the maintenance of business-critical services while expanding the feature set. Current projects include enhancing package building capabilities, improving development workflows, and modernizing the web UI.

Location: Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (Remote)

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time
  • Remote role with global travel 2 to 4 times a year for internal and external events

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively collaborate on design, architecture, and feature selection with distributed teams
  • Write high-quality, API-first Python code with unit tests
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality fixes
  • Review code from other engineers

Who You Are:

  • An individual who loves technology and enjoys solving interesting problems
  • A strategic thinker who is curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable
  • Someone who values soft skills, is passionate, enterprising, and self-motivated
  • Holds a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
  • Proficient in delivering robust code in production, ideally in Python
  • Experienced in maintaining and improving large, mature web applications
  • Familiar with databases and ORMs (PostgreSQL preferred), data management, and data modeling
  • Interested in or experienced with integration, infrastructure, and operations
  • Believes that robust security must be a priority at every delivery stage
  • Familiar with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform
  • Has a solid understanding of the structure of various software packaging systems, including Debian/Ubuntu packages
