About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is extensively utilized in transformative enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We serve prominent public cloud and silicon providers and industry leaders across various sectors.

We are seeking a Software Architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud. The objective is to facilitate the seamless operation of clusters of compute using system containers or virtual machines. This involves developing user-friendly, reliable solutions for cloud setup, addressing challenges in distributed systems, virtualization, container technology, networking, and storage.

LXD is a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator prominently used on Ubuntu, ChromeOS, and other Linux platforms. As a Software Architect, you will be responsible for driving the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD, as well as Canonical MicroCloud, which integrates LXD with Ceph and OVN to establish an efficient, resilient cluster-scale cloud infrastructure.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a home-based position available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • The role includes leading the architecture of LXD and MicroCloud, mentoring colleagues, developing in Golang and C, and reviewing code.
  • There is an expectation of global travel twice annually for company events.

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English is required.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record with a degree in Computer Science or STEM.
  • Experience in Golang and C, as well as knowledge in cloud infrastructure, storage, networking, and virtualization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to deliver to schedule.
  • Experience with concurrent, distributed systems and container technologies is essential.
