Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems with a focus on the Ubuntu platform. Our goal is to create seamless, reliable cloud infrastructure using containers and virtual machines. We are looking for a Software Architect to lead the architecture and design of Canonical LXD and MicroCloud, which integrates LXD with Ceph and OVN. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Golang and C, as well as experience with modern cloud infrastructure technologies and distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture of LXD and MicroCloud.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues in their career progression.
  • Develop applications using Golang and C.
  • Review code produced by other engineers.
  • Ensure product security and performance.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership within Canonical and the broader community.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic background with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
  • Experience in Golang and C programming languages.
  • Knowledge of storage, networking, and virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with container technologies and concurrent distributed systems.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu).

Work Conditions:

  • Home-based position available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • Global travel required twice annually for company events.
