Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. We are hiring a Software Architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud, with the goal of making clusters of compute, using system containers or virtual machines, "just work." The position focuses on creating a streamlined process for deploying cloud infrastructure, whether through one, two, or multiple servers.

As a Software Architect, you will be responsible for the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD and Canonical MicroCloud, which combines LXD with Ceph and OVN to deliver a resilient cluster-scale cloud infrastructure. This role is ideal for a skilled software architect and engineer who possesses experience in Golang and C, and can lead a team in developing outstanding products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture of LXD and MicroCloud.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues in their career progression.
  • Write and code in Golang and C.
  • Review code produced by other engineers to ensure security and performance.
  • Exhibit technical leadership within Canonical and the community.
  • Work from home, with global travel twice annually for company events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic background in Computer Science or STEM.
  • A drive to exceed expectations, with technical leadership experience.
  • Well-organized, self-starting, capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in professional communication.
  • Experience with Go and C, as well as knowledge of storage, networking, virtualization, and container technologies.
  • Familiarity with concurrent, distributed systems.
  • Detail-oriented, emphasizing performance.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
