Position

As a Software Engineer, Ceph & Distributed Storage at Canonical, you play a key role in the success of Ubuntu and its community. Your main responsibilities will include working collaboratively with your team to achieve objectives and improve continuously, thereby contributing to a high-performing environment. Your focus will be on creating modeling software for systems such as OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes, with an emphasis on distributed storage.

In this role, you will engage in:

  • Writing high-quality, rigorously designed Python and Golang software.
  • Collaborating with a globally distributed team.
  • Debugging issues and producing high-quality code to resolve them.
  • Developing technical documentation that defines best practices for authoring high-quality operators.
  • Building and maintaining software for Ceph storage delivery, operations, and life-cycle management.

This position includes the requirement of international travel several times a year, typically for one week at a time.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience in writing modern, maintainable Python.
  • Knowledge of Ceph storage.
  • A passion for technology and teamwork, plus a strong curiosity and flexibility.
  • Proficiency in two or more of the following: Linux, Kubernetes, Public cloud, OpenStack, LXC/LXD, Python, Go, or Debian packaging.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience operating Ceph clusters in production.
  • Familiarity with open source distributed storage solutions such as Gluster, Minio, Mayastor, or similar.
