Position

Canonical is building an automation suite for multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions for enterprises. The data platform team develops a comprehensive range of data technologies, including big data solutions, NoSQL systems, cache-layer capabilities, and analytics, as well as structured SQL engines. The OpenSearch team focuses on creating optimal enterprise automation solutions for search and analytics platforms like OpenSearch and Elasticsearch.

This role involves automating OpenSearch operations, ensuring fault-tolerant replication, TLS, and installation, while providing domain-specific expertise to other teams within Canonical. Your primary focus will be on creating and automating features of data platforms rather than data analysis.

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Remote)

Work Conditions:

  • Fully remote position with global travel for 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate proactively with an internationally distributed team.
  • Write high-quality, idiomatic Python code to develop new features.
  • Debug issues and engage with upstream communities.
  • Work alongside skilled engineers in diverse fields.

Requirements:

  • Proven hands-on experience in software development using Python.
  • Experience in distributed systems development.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Additional Skills That You Might Also Bring:

  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and OpenSearch.
  • Linux systems administration, package management, and operations experience.
  • Familiarity with public cloud or private cloud solutions like OpenStack.
  • Experience operating Kubernetes clusters for persistent data services.
