Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets, with a focus on the Ubuntu platform. We seek a Software Engineer - L3 Support to join our dynamic engineering team, addressing complex customer issues related to Linux-based infrastructure and applications, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, and Kubernetes.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for a technologist passionate about Linux and open source to build a fulfilling career at Canonical, contributing to our customers and the wider community. You will be involved in troubleshooting and resolving critical issues within the open source stack, requiring upstream bug fixes and collaboration with various teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate versatility across the tech stack, including experience with Linux and multiple programming languages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes and patches.
  • Review code produced by peers and participate in discussions to enhance processes and tools.
  • Communicate effectively and concisely regarding technical issues.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux and open-source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A willingness to learn and tackle complex technical challenges.

  • Passion for technology and working with diverse teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, paired with self-motivation.
  • Interest or willingness to learn about Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and other related technologies.
