We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support to engage in a dynamic and exciting engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications across all layers of the stack. This includes bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph, Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and various open-source applications used by large enterprise customers.

In this role, you'll resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, and Kubernetes, ensuring you work efficiently with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams. Your engineering skills will be vital in troubleshooting, developing bug fixes, and communicating technical solutions clearly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes and other open-source software.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Canonical's teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in technical methods.
  • Prioritize work and manage time effectively.
  • Contribute to team discussions to improve processes and documentation.
  • Work from home and travel internationally up to 10% for meetings and events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar fields.
  • Experience with Linux and open-source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A drive to learn unfamiliar technology and dive deep into challenging issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Passion for technology and working collaboratively.
  • Curiosity and flexibility in problem-solving.
  • Interest in learning about Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and distributed systems.
