Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, known for its platform, Ubuntu, which is utilized in various enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As a Software Engineer - L3 Support, you will work in a dynamic role within Linux-based infrastructure and applications, addressing issues across various layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph, Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and open source applications.

This position offers an opportunity for a technologist passionate about Linux and open source to build a successful career with Canonical, contributing to the success of customers, the community, and the company. Your role will involve troubleshooting and resolving complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes, as well as developing bug fixes and engaging with upstream communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu and other relevant technologies.
  • Maintain close working relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and contribute code and bug fixes.
  • Prioritize and manage workload effectively.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly and concisely.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic background in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and take on challenging problems.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for team meetings and events (up to 10% of the time).

  • A passion for technology and collaboration.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and strong communication abilities.
  • Interest in learning about Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and other related technologies.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English is preferred; additional language skills may be advantageous.
