Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems aimed at global enterprises and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely utilized in critical enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As a Software Engineer on our OpenStack Engineering team, you will be tasked with building Charmed OpenStack and Ceph—a suite of open-source Python-based charms for deploying and managing OpenStack and Ceph. This role requires a passion for automating infrastructure as code and involves working with a globally distributed team.

As part of this position, you'll be writing high-quality code, debugging issues, reviewing code, and ensuring the success of OpenStack and Ceph across various architectures. The job also involves international travel several times a year, typically for one week at a time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
  • Write high-quality code to create new features.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them.
  • Review code produced by other engineers.
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding effective solutions.
  • Ensure the success of OpenStack and Ceph on multiple architectures.
  • Work from home with global travel 2 to 4 weeks annually for internal and external events.

Who You Are:

  • Hold a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM or similar area.
  • Have experience with Python and an interest in more than two of the following: Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, AI/ML, various programming languages, and cloud technologies.
  • Experience with non-x86 architectures is a plus.

Language Requirements: Proficiency in English is expected.
