About the Job:

The Canonical Public Cloud team is seeking enthusiastic engineers to act as Ubuntu distribution engineers. These engineers will work closely with the Ubuntu Engineering organization to ensure that technologies such as cloud-specific agents, web servers, databases, and virtualization/containerization stacks are optimized for public clouds. The team collaborates with industry giants like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, IBM, and Oracle to enhance Ubuntu for their infrastructures while providing a consistent user experience.

As a member of the Public Cloud team, you will be part of a dynamic environment that builds and maintains Ubuntu Server for cloud environments, with an emphasis on continuous deployment of images to end users. This role involves collaborating proactively within a distributed team and ensuring high-quality software standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within a distributed team to foster a seamless software ecosystem for all Ubuntu users.
  • Evaluate contributions of other engineers to maintain high software quality.
  • Debug issues on both open source and team-maintained code.
  • Maintain and package software including cloud agents and traditional server workloads.

  • Experience or interest in public cloud operations or architecture and open source maintenance.

  • Familiarity with containerization and virtualization technologies, such as Docker and QEMU.

  • Excellent soft skills and a self-motivated attitude.

Language Requirements:
English proficiency is expected for effective communication within the team.

Work Conditions:
Full-time, Remote with global travel (2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events).
