Position

The Ubuntu Engineering Server Team is on the lookout for open source enthusiasts to help shape the future of Ubuntu. The team is responsible for maintaining and packaging various software, including web servers, databases, and virtualization and containerization stacks. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate software engineer ready to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in technology.

Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote with global travel for 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate proactively within a distributed team.
  • Foster a seamless user experience for all Ubuntu users.
  • Maintain high-quality software standards by evaluating contributions from other engineers.
  • Shape the future of Ubuntu with new ideas and insights.
  • Collaborate with other teams in the Ubuntu and Debian communities, upstream projects, and commercial customers.
  • Debug issues on open-source and team-maintained code.
  • Maintain Ubuntu Server packages, including traditional server workloads, virtualization, containers, and language runtimes.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Enthusiasm for technology and collaboration with talented individuals.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, articulation, and accountability.
  • Passion for open source maintenance or contribution.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Strong fundamentals in programming languages like C/C++, Python, Rust, or Go.
  • Interest in learning about distro packaging and basic understanding of package management.
  • Familiarity with containerization and virtualization technologies such as Docker, OCI, LXD, Virtualbox, QEMU, or public clouds.
