About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, known for the Ubuntu platform, which underpins a range of enterprise initiatives across public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers span the world's foremost public cloud and silicon providers. The Canonical Public Cloud team is seeking enthusiastic engineers to join as Ubuntu distribution engineers.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Ubuntu Engineering organization to optimize technologies such as cloud-specific agents, web servers, and database stacks for public cloud environments. The team partners with major players like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, IBM, and Oracle to enhance Ubuntu's performance on their infrastructures, striving to provide a unified operating experience for their users.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborating proactively within a distributed team.
  • Fostering a software ecosystem that ensures a seamless user experience for all Ubuntu users.
  • Evaluating contributions from other engineers to uphold high software quality standards.
  • Debugging issues in open source and team-maintained code.
  • Packaging server software and maintaining cloud-specific agents and workloads.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for technology and collaborative work with skilled individuals.
  • Interest or experience in public cloud operations or architecture.
  • Experience in open source maintenance and contributions is preferred.
  • Understanding of package management and testing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Python and familiarity with Linux distribution packaging.
  • Interest in containerization and virtualization technologies.
