About the Job:
Canonical's mission is to reinvent how companies manage their open-source information systems on public clouds and in their own data centers. The team is building a new community around Python opscode for open-source applications running on Kubernetes, aiming to move Canonical and Ubuntu IS onto this new codebase. This role is designed for software engineers who have a passion for Python, distributed systems, and the entire Linux stack, from kernel to networking to virtualization and containers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and delivering open-source software operations code in Python
  • Working across the entire Linux stack, from kernel, networking, and storage to applications
  • Ensuring sound software architecture and adhering to best practices in software quality, testing, and documentation
  • Participating in the coaching and development of colleagues
  • Contributing to a collaborative engineering culture

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time
  • Remote work with global travel once or twice a year for up to 2 weeks for events

Requirements:

  • Strong Python development skills
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes
  • Experience with Linux systems administration and package management
  • Hands-on experience with at least one public cloud
  • Understanding of Docker
  • Passion for reliable software design
