Position

Canonical is on a mission to build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure that integrates KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies. This platform aims to create a reliable cloud service for edge and core enterprise deployments. We are looking for an Engineering Manager with a solid background in microservice architectures and high-performance team leadership, who possesses a deep understanding of Linux kernel, virtualisation, storage, and networking.

As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and aiding in their professional growth. You will facilitate an effective and collaborative work environment, ensuring high-quality software delivery while positively influencing team culture. Your role also involves technical leadership, strategy execution, and participating in code and architectural reviews.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of remote engineers through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development.
  • Set expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Promote modern software development practices.
  • Engage with Canonical teams, the open-source community, and partners.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
  • Proven track record in talent development.
  • Focus on timely and high-quality software delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Programming experience in C and/or Go.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a full-time remote position available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • Global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
  • Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person.
