Position

We are seeking engineering managers with a strong technical background in high-quality microservice architectures and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have deep familiarity with Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.

As a Software Engineering Manager at Canonical, your primary responsibilities will include leading a remote team of engineers, developing talent through coaching and mentoring, managing expectations with engineering teams and stakeholders, and fostering modern software development practices. You will actively engage with teams at Canonical and the open source community, participate in architectural reviews, and assist in setting strategic directions.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • Travel is required for approximately 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of remote engineers.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback.
  • Communicate expectations clearly to engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews.
  • Engage with Canonical teams, the open source community, and external partners.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
  • Proven track record of talent development and fostering team success.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Experience programming in C and/or Go.
