About the Job:
Our mission is to build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure, combining KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies to create a data center-scale cloud that 'just works' for mission-critical cloud deployments in edge and core enterprise environments. We are seeking experienced engineering managers with a background in high-quality microservice architectures and strong team leadership skills, particularly those with deep knowledge of Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.

As an engineering manager at Canonical, you will need a solid technical background while focusing on running an effective team and developing your teammates. You will be expected to support their growth as engineers, ensure they perform excellently, and facilitate a positive working environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading a team of remote engineers.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing talent.
  • Setting and managing expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocating for modern software development practices.
  • Engaging with the Canonical team, open source community, and partners.
  • Working from home with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
  • Proven track record of developing and growing team members.
  • Focused on delivering timely, high-quality software.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or related field.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Programming experience in C and/or Go.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote position available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person.
  • Global travel required for internal and external events for 4 to 6 weeks per year.
