Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, with a strong focus on enterprise and technology markets through its widely used platform, Ubuntu. We are hiring a Software Engineering Manager to lead the development of Multipass, a mini-cloud workstation for macOS, Windows, and Linux. This tool allows developers to create a local cloud experience for running builds, testing cloud deployments, and experimenting with cloud appliances, all free of charge.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of remote engineers.
  • Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Setting and managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocating modern software development practices and participating in code and architectural reviews.
  • Engaging with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and partners.

Work Conditions:

  • This position is remote, available in EMEA and the Americas.
  • Expectation of global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Expertise in modern C++ development and cross-platform development experience on macOS and/or Windows.
  • Knowledge of hypervisor technologies such as Hyper-V, VirtualBox, and KVM.
  • Open source experience and involvement is preferred.
