Launchpad is a robust platform for managing open-source development projects, providing essential infrastructure for major projects such as Ubuntu.

As an engineering manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility is to the people you support: ensuring their growth as engineers, the value of their work, and their overall satisfaction at Canonical. You will provide technical leadership, challenge and develop your team members, influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow and lead a team of engineers in your region.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and contribute to your team's goals.
  • Create and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team and community.
  • Lead the ongoing development of the Launchpad infrastructure.
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices.
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture.
  • Engage actively with the broader leadership team.
  • Work from home with international travel up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Who You Are:

  • Experience leading a distributed team to deliver features and manage production services at scale.
  • A passion for mentoring, developing, and growing people, with a proven track record.
  • Knowledgeable about technology and experienced in delivering high-quality software.
  • Experience designing and evolving complex distributed systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid experience working in an agile development environment.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote role based in the EMEA region. Candidates are expected to be located within this region.

Diversity Commitment: We foster a workplace free from discrimination and believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and background leads to a better environment for our employees and a better platform for our users and customers. We encourage everyone to be a part of the world of Ubuntu.
