About the Job:
Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, is expanding its Linux kernel engineering team. We are seeking multiple candidates to lead various initiatives related to upstream development and enhancing the Ubuntu kernel's capabilities. Responsibilities include optimizing the Ubuntu kernel for new CPUs and environments, managing CVEs, and ensuring Ubuntu's compatibility across diverse hardware.
This position is ideal for either an experienced manager of high-performing software development teams or a skilled technical lead eager to embrace management duties. A passion for Linux and an aspiration to contribute to its distribution to millions of users worldwide are essential.

Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Job Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a distributed team of engineers in your time zone.
  • Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Oversee the delivery of core and specialized Ubuntu kernels.
  • Engage with other teams, the open-source community, and commercial partners.
  • Support commercial engagements requiring custom kernel engineering.
  • Ensure adherence to quality and reliability standards.
  • Travel globally 2-3 times a year for internal and external engineering events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Significant programming experience in C, with knowledge in Python, Golang, or similar languages.
  • Substantial experience with Linux kernel internals and development principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing or leading a software engineering team.
  • Previous contributions to an open-source project.
  • Understanding of agile software development methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
