Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, known for our platform, Ubuntu, which is widely used in various enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, and IoT. We are looking for a Software Support Engineer to join our dynamic team and support our Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This role will involve working on technologies across the entire stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source applications.

In this position, you will resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining close collaboration with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams, participating in upstream communities, developing bug fixes, reviewing code, and enhancing processes and documentation.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote, full-time position.
  • International travel is required up to 10% of the time for team meetings, events, and conferences.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is essential.

Qualifications:

  • An exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • A willingness to learn and tackle challenges in unfamiliar technologies.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Interest in or willingness to learn about technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, or distributed systems.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for technology.
