Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, with a strong emphasis on its platform, Ubuntu. The company serves a diverse customer base, including major public cloud and silicon providers. We are looking for a Software Support Engineer to engage in a dynamic engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications across various layers of the technology stack. This will include working with bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage solutions (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source applications.

This position requires a passionate technologist with a solid understanding of Linux and open source, who can troubleshoot and resolve complex issues affecting enterprise customers. Your work will directly contribute to the success of our community and customers by engaging in upstream bug fixes and collaborating with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.

Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote, International travel up to 10% for team meetings, events, and conferences (approximately 4 times a year).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, and Kubernetes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal teams and participate in upstream communities.
  • Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and support their inclusion upstream.
  • Review code from other engineers and contribute to improving processes and documentation.
  • Communicate technical details clearly and concisely.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, C, or C++) on Linux.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and tackle challenging issues.

Language Requirements:
No specific language requirements stated; proficiency in English is typically assumed in international roles.
