Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, known for our platform, Ubuntu, which is widely utilized across various enterprise initiatives including public cloud, data science, AI, and IoT. Our clientele features top public cloud and silicon providers, and leaders across multiple sectors. As a pioneer in global distributed collaboration, Canonical promotes a remote-first work environment with occasional in-person team meetings held globally.

We are seeking a Software Support Engineer to engage in a dynamic technical role focusing on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This position covers a wide range of layers including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, and Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and associated open-source applications.

In this critical role, you will provide support for complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, and other open source software. You will collaborate closely with various internal teams, participate in upstream communities, develop bug fixes, and review code written by others. Your ability to communicate effectively and manage your time against priorities will be essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to various software technologies.
  • Maintain a relationship with Canonical’s Field, Support, and engineering teams.
  • Participate in community engagements and contribute to upstream development.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Travel internationally up to 10% of the time for team events and conferences.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic record, preferably in Computer Science, STEM, or a related area.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++.
  • A passion for technology and strong troubleshooting abilities.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Interest in learning about technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and Ceph.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation with annual reviews and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits including personal learning and development budget, holiday leave, and parental leave.
  • Opportunities for travel to meet colleagues and attend events.
  • A remote-first work culture that promotes diversity and equal opportunity.

Join us at Canonical and contribute to redefining the landscape of open-source technology.
