We are hiring a Software Support Engineer to work in a dynamic role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This role covers all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and open source applications. You will help troubleshoot and resolve complex customer problems relating to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software. The role involves maintaining close relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams, participating in upstream communities, developing bug fixes, and reviewing code produced by other engineers.

Work Conditions:

  • Travel up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events, and conferences (up to 4 times a year)

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
  • Experience with Linux and open source software
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux
  • Willingness to travel for team events and conferences

  • Passion for technology and collaboration
  • Curiosity and flexibility in problem-solving
  • Interest in areas such as Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and distributed systems
