Position

Lead our effort to get Ubuntu fit for mission-critical environments such as automotive, aerospace, and industrial robotics, among other highly regulated uses. Ubuntu is the most widely used Linux distribution in enterprise settings, for developers, and at home. We aim to enable innovation across these sectors, serving as a gateway to the vast world of open source.

Canonical is seeking a Development Lifecycle Engineer with a passion for engineering excellence and open source, who has experience implementing agile lifecycle release trains across multiple product sets. The purpose of this role is to bridge Canonical's open source engineering processes with the requirements of regulated technology platforms in terms of compliance and certification. This is not merely a documentation task; we strive to enhance delivery quality, security, and the developer experience.

In this role, you will lead, challenge, and influence the culture and work environment. You will collaborate with all engineering stakeholders to demonstrate Canonical's ways of working, defining and implementing continuous improvement processes and establishing qualification requirements to support engineering quality standards. This includes working with teams to positively challenge their processes and enhance existing development lifecycle practices, as well as establishing strategic relationships with external working groups, committees, and partners. You will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering Excellence and work closely with company-wide engineering leadership to define and execute this vision.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong experience in engineering and process management in an agile environment
  • Proven ability to develop and grow people and teams
  • Experience leading successful compliance and certification efforts, with an understanding of stakeholder management
  • Knowledge or certification addressing industry standards such as ISO IEC 9001, 25010, and 15504/SPICE
  • Experience with successful open source projects known for demonstrated engineering processes

Additional Skills That You Might Bring:

  • Background as a software developer
  • Experience in establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

What We Offer:

  • Competitive base pay depending on geographic location, experience, knowledge, and skills
  • Additional benefits may include annual bonuses and sales incentives
  • Fully remote working environment
  • Personal learning and development budget of $2,000 per annum
  • Annual compensation review
  • Recognition rewards
  • Annual holiday leave
  • Parental leave
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Opportunity to travel to meet colleagues at company events
  • Priority Pass for travel and upgrades for long-haul company events
