Position

Canonical is seeking multiple senior/staff Security Operations Engineer (SOC) positions to form a new team reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). This role is aimed at candidates with varying levels of experience, from those with deep expertise in defending critical assets against advanced threats to junior roles for exceptional individuals demonstrating a strong personal interest in cybersecurity. The team’s mission is to enhance the robustness of the open-source supply chain and contribute to the security of the global Ubuntu ecosystem.

The Security Operations (SecOps) team is responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving Canonical security practices, tools, systems, and policies. They ensure security threats are identified, contained, and remediated, while contributing to the resilience of Ubuntu users against cyber attacks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and evolve Canonical's SecOps security standards and playbooks.
  • Analyze and improve Canonical's security architecture.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement new security tools and practices.
  • Identify, contain, and guide remediation of security threats and cyber attacks.
  • Grow the presence and thought leadership of Canonical's SecOps practice.
  • Contribute to open source threat intelligence initiatives.
  • Drive threat modeling, tabletop exercises, and other SecOps practices.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic record, ideally with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
  • Deep motivation for technology security and a track record of exceeding expectations.
  • Expertise in threat modeling and risk management frameworks.
  • Knowledge of security architecture and market-leading security tools.
  • Experience with security risk management frameworks such as NIST CSF and standards like ISO 27001.
  • (Optional) Experience in a security operations team or SOC, and dealing with advanced persistent threats.

Language Requirements:
