Careem is seeking a Staff Data Scientist I to join our team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. As part of the Careem Data Science team, you will be at the forefront of driving competitive value from data at scale. Your work will involve building AI models to optimize user experiences, decision-making, and operational efficiencies, while leading the region’s AI ecosystem. This is an exciting opportunity to innovate on user experience using GenAI, working alongside top talent in the field.
What You'll Do
- Lead a 0-1 AI transformation for the Careem app from a personalization perspective.
- Build a long-term vision to rethink customer acquisition and engagement strategies leveraging data.
- Conduct exploratory analysis to understand the ecosystem and user behavior, identify new levers to influence metrics, and build models of user behaviors.
- Shape and influence data/ML models and instrumentation to optimize product experiences and generate insights for new opportunities.
- Provide product leadership with data-driven recommendations to communicate the state of the business and influence product decisions.
- Implement scalable machine learning algorithms for production on big data.
- Embark on exploratory data analysis projects for better understanding and discovering growth areas.
- Answer complex analytic questions from big data sets to enhance Careem's products and services.
- Define and track key metrics for specific projects.
- Design and run randomized controlled experiments, analyze data, and communicate results to other teams.
- Challenge the status quo by investigating new data processing technologies and ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
- Build and deploy retrieval augmented generation systems and applications of large language models.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in data mining, predictive modeling, time series analysis, machine learning, and Big Data methodologies.
- Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science).
- Solid experience with Deep Learning Techniques (e.g., attention, retrieval models).
- 3-4 years of industrial experience in personalization, recommendation, or search is essential.
- Strong problem-solving and coding skills with solid knowledge of A/B testing and classic ML and DL.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark, and Hive.
- Experience with database technologies (e.g., Hadoop, BigQuery, Amazon EMR, Hive, Oracle).
- Familiarity with business intelligence and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, MicroStrategy) is a plus.
