A Network Engineer designs, implements, and maintains the high-speed, low-latency network infrastructure required to support complex computational tasks and large-scale data transfers. They ensure seamless connectivity between servers, storage systems, and computational nodes, optimizing network performance to handle intensive AI and HPC workloads. Additionally, they monitor network health, troubleshoot issues, and implement security measures to protect data and infrastructure from potential threats.

Responsibilities
- Ensure high-speed, low-latency network performance to support demanding AI and HPC applications, enabling efficient data transfer and communication between computational nodes.
- Develop and implement scalable network architectures that can handle the growing data and computational needs of AI and HPC environments.
- Maintain network reliability and high availability by designing redundant systems and implementing robust monitoring and maintenance practices.
- Implement and enforce security measures to protect the network infrastructure from cyber threats and unauthorized access.
- Continuously monitor network performance, identify and resolve issues promptly, and optimize network configurations to prevent bottlenecks and disruptions.
- Facilitate seamless integration of network components with existing infrastructure and applications, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
Qualifications
Required skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized coursework can be beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of networking technologies, including TCP/IP, routing and switching, VLANs, and network protocols relevant to AI and HPC environments.
- 5 years of hands-on experience with network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers from various vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Arista).
- Familiarity with the specific networking needs and challenges associated with AI and HPC workloads, including low-latency and high-throughput requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues efficiently.
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CompTIA Network+, or similar networking credentials.
- Proficiency in network security practices, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access control mechanisms.
- Skills in using network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, Nagios) to track and analyse network performance.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible, PowerShell) for managing and automating network tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with other teams, document network configurations, and report on network performance.
