The Data Engineer will play a crucial role in delivering world-class big data solutions and driving impactful results for the dubizzle business. This position involves managing exciting projects that cover the entire data life cycle—from raw data integrations with primary and third-party systems to advanced data modeling, state-of-the-art data visualization, and innovative data product development.
You will have the opportunity to build and work with both batch and real-time data processing pipelines within a modern cloud-based data warehousing environment. Collaborating with various teams—including product & tech, core business verticals, trust & safety, and finance—you will help enable their success.
Responsibilities
- Integrate raw data with primary and third-party systems.
- Perform data warehouse modeling for operational and application data layers.
- Develop in an Amazon Redshift cluster.
- Engage in SQL development as part of an agile team workflow.
- Design and implement ETL processes in Matillion ETL.
- Create real-time data pipelines and applications using AWS services (Lambda, Kinesis, API Gateway, REST API, etc.).
- Design and implement data products that support data-driven features or business solutions.
- Ensure data quality, system stability, and adherence to coding standards in SQL, Python, and ETL design.
- Build data dashboards and advanced visualizations in Periscope Data, focusing on UX, simplicity, and usability.
- Collaborate with other departments on data products, including product & technology, marketing, finance, and advertising.
- Contribute to a strong team culture and ambition to remain at the cutting edge of big data.
- Work autonomously on complex projects and participate in regular ETL status check rotations.
Requirements
Qualification:
- Top of class technical degree (e.g., computer science, engineering, math, physics).
Experience:
- 3+ years working with customer-centric data at big data scale, preferably in online/e-commerce.
- 2+ years of experience with one or more programming languages, especially Python.
- Strong background in business intelligence solutions, building and scaling data warehouses, and data modeling.
- Experience with modern big data ETL tools (e.g., Matillion) is a plus.
- Familiarity with AWS data ecosystem or other cloud providers.
- Experience with modern data visualization platforms (e.g., Sisense, Google Data Studio, Tableau, MS Power BI).
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of real-time data pipelines (e.g., serverless frameworks, Lambda, Kinesis).
- Understanding of relational and dimensional data models.
- Proficiency in SQL across various relational data warehousing technologies, particularly in cloud data warehousing (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake).
- Ability to communicate insights and findings to a non-technical audience.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking, attention to detail, and business acumen.
