The role of the GIS Engineer is integral to the planning of mobility and transportation networks throughout NEOM. This position is crucial for the development and implementation of the GIS database to support the ongoing efforts in connectivity and accessibility between various regions within the project. Working closely with NEOM’s projects office, rail, and mobility planners, the GIS Engineer will play a key role in integrating mobility solutions through GIS development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the ongoing development and maintenance of Land Mobility’s GIS Corporate database and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Assist the GIS team in developing GIS web applications and API integration.
  • Develop comprehensive GIS data models and schemas for Mobility and contribute to data governance.
  • Automate data flow processes to maintain the integrity of the GIS database.
  • Create, modify, and maintain custom scripts and routines for GIS process automation and application.
  • Produce 3D and 2D GIS visualizations to aid the planning team in evaluating connectivity within various regions.
  • Identify key project stakeholders across NEOM sectors to acquire necessary approvals and collaborate for successful project delivery.
  • Provide spatial data analysis, reporting, and mapping in a cost-effective manner to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure data integration with external systems, improving data integrity through field surveys.
  • Perform GIS data entry, geocoding, analysis, validation, and maintenance for regional mobility systems and projects.
  • Conduct simple to complex spatial analysis to support NEOM’s Mobility team, including the ability to run models in GIS platforms and write scripts using Python.
  • Manage and synchronize mobility data from various sources within the GIS system.
  • Ensure compliance with NEOM's strategies for GIS enterprise systems.
  • Contribute to developing GIS decision-making support systems and make periodic reports to management on GIS activities.
  • Maintain internal GIS systems to continuously inform the business without interruption.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in GIS, application development, or database management with a solid understanding of geographic concepts and GIS software.
  • Strong interest in mobility modes, particularly in active mobility and transit systems.
  • Strong FME skills for designing and implementing workbenches to automate data flow and conversion between formats.
  • A good foundation in planning concepts, such as land use and transportation policy/design.
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Online) and knowledge of database structures including joins and relates.
  • Advanced knowledge of FME and SQL Server; proficiency in Python, ArcGIS for JavaScript, and/or Model Builder is a plus.
  • Technical report writing skills and experience in fast-paced transportation organizations.
  • Proven leadership with strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to analyze and present information effectively, maintaining productive relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
