About the Role
The Lead Controls Field Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the full range of hardware and software products in the Controls Services Business portfolio. This role includes external reporting responsibilities, as the Lead Controls Field Engineer may communicate with clients, plant/utility owners, and construction firms, providing daily or weekly updates on job progress as needed. Key duties involve reviewing plant engineering documents, troubleshooting plant systems and equipment, and coordinating resources such as labor, tools, and materials to complete work scope according to contractual requirements. Additionally, you may be assigned other duties that support the company Gas Power Controls vision and align with the organization’s core values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively manage controls and instrumentation activities on-site during the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of upgrade projects or new installations. This includes oversight of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics for control systems like Mark V, Mark Vi, Mark Vie, Cimplicity, and HMIs.
  • Provide customers with technical direction and support on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) packaged products.
  • Understand PLC ladder logic and navigate through ladder rungs while troubleshooting.
  • Trace through software documentation and implement control constant modifications.
  • Read and modify software sequencing.
  • Set up and modify the hardware/software associated with Gas and Steam Turbine systems.
  • Troubleshoot existing Control Solutions hardware and software installations on-site.
  • Prepare field service jobs and coordinate with project/service managers.
  • Provide training to customer employees as needed.
  • Supervise cable laying, meggering, and connection.
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and acquire customers’ signatures on timesheets before leaving the job site.
  • Understand T&C (Terms and Conditions) commitments and provide timely and accurate internal and external reports.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met and attend technical meetings with customers.
  • Ensure all in-field activities comply with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide expert consultation on complex projects.
  • Timely and accurately input hours, expenses, and timesheets into internal systems.
  • Engage in pre-outage and installation planning; possibly recommending and administering policies and procedures.
  • Available for frequent travel (more than 75%), working offshore, and in restricted countries.
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required by field assignments.
  • Drive customer satisfaction through a commitment to quality.
  • Support business growth initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on company Controls systems such as Mark V, Mark Vi, Mark Vie, etc.
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in Oil & Gas and Power Plant industry field activities.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment control philosophy (Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Centrifugal Compressor, Reciprocate Compressor) and their auxiliaries.
  • Familiarity with unit control panel (UCP), motor control center (MCC), direct current panel (DCP), distributed control system (DCS), and firefighting system installation and commissioning.
  • Solid knowledge of field devices, instruments, and actuators (servo-valves, thermos elements, transmitters, etc.).
  • Proficient in handling special tools such as pressure pumps, multimeters, frequency generators, oscilloscopes, and field generators.
  • Ability to understand and implement technical drawings (wiring diagrams, P&ID, General Arrangement, etc.).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally and work overtime.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain a passport).
  • Strong computer skills using MS Office software.

Desired Characteristics

  • Qualified level: has the knowledge and skill to actively support an outage and knows where to seek answers as questions arise; experienced in successful installations and outages.
  • Experience with Gas/Steam Turbine Driver Control Systems and Auxiliary Systems and their integration with Mark Controls Systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for conveying technical concepts to both business and technical personnel.
  • Familiarity with instruments, controls, and PLCs is beneficial for controls training.
  • Familiarity with computer network systems and switches.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
  • Dependability on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to manage turnkey projects.
