This position is for exceptional software engineers interested in working on Linux kernels for Ubuntu and its ecosystem across various teams at the company. As part of this team, you will work closely with key hardware contributors to ensure optimal performance and production readiness of Linux kernels. The projects you may engage in include optimizing kernels for silicon and cloud partners, enabling Ubuntu on embedded systems, and developing kernel livepatch technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team and work closely with hardware manufacturers.
  • Diagnose and resolve kernel issues.
  • Take responsibility for a specific Ubuntu Linux kernel flavor.
  • Improve tooling and automation for kernel delivery and testing.
  • Review and apply kernel patches.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record (undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM preferred).
  • Strong programming experience with a solid background in Linux kernel and subsystems.
  • Experience in kernel patching and debugging, with knowledge of upstream processes and release cycles.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and deliver on deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel globally twice a year for team events.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Python and Bash scripting.
  • Prior experience with Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging.
  • Background in performance engineering and security.
